JOB DISTINCTIONS: Differs from Aircraft Pilot 2 either by responsibility for administering the aviation program for an agency with less than five aircraft or responsibility for directing regional flight operations for four or more aircraft within an agency wide air fleet.
Differs from Aircraft Fleet Command Pilot by lack of responsibility for air operations for six or more aircraft.
Examples of Work Incumbent performs professional air operations work relative to directing and supervising all air activities of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry which includes aircrafts and aircraft pilots.
The employee is responsible for functional supervision over Aircraft Pilots.
Supervision for this position is received from the LDAF Aircraft Fleet Command Pilot.
60% Perform skilled technical aviation work in the operation of aircraft in providing patrol, freight, and passenger service for the Office of Forestry, Department of Agriculture & Forestry (LDAF).
Work includes wildfire detection and suppression activities, forest insect and disease patrol, Best Management Practices survey, transportation of various materials and supplies, and transport of personnel engaged in various forestry activities.
Work is performed in accordance with rules and regulations of the FAA and the LDAF.
20% Develops, implements, and monitors pilot proficiency training.
Provides instruction including pilot proficiency flights, may provide flight reviews, may provide recurring training in all types and models of Department aircraft.
Ensure that all flight training procedures conform to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.
Maintain pilot training records and other pertinent pilot information.
10% Prepares records and reports required by Federal and State agencies.
These include but are not limited to a summary of pilot training, quarterly update to the Louisiana Forestry Commission, and National Forest fire patrol information to the US Forest Service.
10% Provide input and insight regarding aviation maintenance.
Including mandatory FAA updates and logistical scheduling of routine and emergency aircraft maintenance.
Other duties may be assigned.
