Purpose and Scope:
The Automotive Worker performs a variety of minor repairs and services to maintain motor vehicles duties that require an understanding of simple vehicle maintenance.
Essential Responsibilities:
Places and maintains decals on vehicles, checks and replaces batteries, rotates, repairs, and replaces tires, washes, polishes, and cleans interiors and exteriors of vehicles, drains, flushes, and replaces engine, transmission, and differential grease and oils, checks, cleans, calibrates, and replaces spark plugs, cleans and replaces oil and air filters.
Adjusts brakes, replaces windshield wipers, and similar minor parts, assists on major overhaul jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts, repairing components such as generators and water pumps, and replacing thermostats, points, electrical wiring and other items, maintains tools and equipment, and cleans work areas.
Performs all work in accordance to the applicable Technical Manual for the vehicle and work assigned.
Must be able recognize and know proper usage of a variety of automotive tools.
Performs all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
One or more years’ experience and specific knowledge in vehicle maintenance either through schooling or verifiable on the job experience.
Must have or be able to obtain site forklift and other licenses/certifications.
Must have a valid and current state driver’s license.
Must understand and be able to use Technical Manuals.
Must be able to complete paperwork associated with vehicle maintenance and repairs.
Ability to manipulate and use hand tools and hydraulic equipment
Ability to work in a team environment
Preferred Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Maintenance and repair of military tactical vehicles, as well as, lawn mower (push, riding, zero turn), ATV, side by side, HMMWV, light wheeled trailers
ASE and/or Diesel Mechanic Certifications
Experience in field repairs and recovery
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
Must be able to lift 50 lbs with or without accommodation.
Must utilize all proper lifting procedures and practices.
Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Must be able to work at heights.
Must be able to climb in and out of vehicles of various sizes and heights
Must be able to work under pressure and strenuous conditions.
Must be able to meet short suspense dates.
Must be able to conduct work in the out-of-doors area with potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions (i.
e.
extreme temperatures, high humidity, rain and blowing dust).
Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of stooping; climbing; standing; and sitting for long periods of uninterrupted time.
May require shift work.
May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty including nights, weekends, and holidays.
During the usual work period, the worker may be exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting and uncomfortable.
