Summary
The Laborer performs various manual labor and equipment operation tasks to assist the line crew to install, maintain, and service the electrical transmission and distribution system.
This is an entry-level position that may be used to prepare the worker for entry into a Line Technician Apprenticeship.
The Laborer may be called upon in emergency situations and may assist in operations on an as-needed basis.
Duties and Responsibilities
Communicate verbally and understand audible signals in emergency/safety situations and in general to assist in keeping worksite area safe.
Assist line crews to install, maintain, and service the electric power-line transmission and distribution system.
Organize, restock, and perform basic preventative maintenance on equipment, trucks and shop.
Use hand tools and operate equipment to dig ditches and pole holes.
Follow directions from crew members.
Work as a team member to safely and efficiently complete work activities.
Use problem-solving skills and initiative to foresee equipment needs of the crew and to identify and alert the crew to potential safety concerns.
Tie specific knots and use blocks, tackles, pulleys and hand lines.
Adapt to technological changes as they are implemented.
Organize and perform regular and preventative maintenance on equipment.
Interact with the public appropriately to maintain safety on work site.
Willingness to learn new skills and abilities by participating in continuing education activities.
Other duties as assigned by Leadership.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
General knowledge of electric services is great.
High school diploma or GED required.
CDL class A license preferred; must acquire CDL beginners permit within 60 days.
Complete OSHA 10 hr Safety Training Program within 90 days.

Working conditions/Physical Requirements/Travel
Working Conditions
Work sites are outdoors in potentially extreme weather conditions and possible confined space.
All worksite safety instructions are written and spoken in English; must be fluent in English.
Work includes prolonged and repeated: lifting (including overhead, up to 50lbs); standing; climbing; kneeling; reaching and feeling; crouching and crawling.
Work is performed within the “red zone” of heavy equipment.
Working safely requires quick/accurate hand-eye coordination and the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
Requirements
Pass pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug screens.
Provide valid US work authorization documents for E-Verify.
Satisfactory results of pre-employment background check results.
Valid driver’s license with clean driving record is required.
Pre-employment medical fit-for-duty test; hold/obtain DOT medical card.
Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as dictated by position.

Ability to work on-call, irregular hours, and emergency response.
