* *Job Summary* The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) works with the Director of Nursing (DON) to manage the nursing department with high professional and personal standards.
The ADON works with the DON to plan, organize, coordinate and direct the nursing functions for professional and nonprofessional nursing personnel to ensure the highest quality of care is provided in a cost effective manner with the residents in the facility.
This is done in an efficient and timely manner with consideration for both health care and legal responsibilities of the residents, the facility and the employees.
The ADON works with the DON to exercise administrative authority, responsibility and accountability for nursing service objectives, implements policies and procedures, coordinates nursing function, activities, and nursing care, as well as providing oversight and supervision to the nursing staff, and their training and competency.
*Education* The ADON must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing, currently registered with the state agency for nursing licensure, and hold a valid registered nursing (RN) license in the state the ADON is employed.
*Qualifications * 1.
At least one year of long term care experience is preferred 2.
Demonstrates leadership and managerial ability balance by strong clinical knowledge and skills.
3.
Has the ability to organize, plan and supervise the Nursing Department in coordination with other resident services.
4.
Demonstrates leadership and management ability to lead the Nursing Department in a cost effective, professional manner.
5.
Is capable of implementing changes as mandated by Federal, State and management recommendations.
6.
Is of good emotional, mental and physical health, having sound judgement and high profession standards.
7.
Has a desire to work with the geriatric clientele as well as residents of any age and their current prospective needs.
8.
Must be willing to be in the facility working with the staff of each shift at varying times.
9.
Must be willing to be in and/or available to the facility weekends as well as weekdays.
10.
Must be willing to participate in the on call schedule.
11.
Must demonstrate ability to evaluate the resident’s needs and implement systems to assure staff education is provided to provide quality care.
12.
Must demonstrate the ability to manage Nursing Department within designated staffing and supply budget.
13.
Is willing and capable of providing emergency care as needed for any resident in the facility.
*Responsibilities* The Assistant Director of Nursing works with the Director of Nursing to assure the following responsibilities are accomplished.

Evaluate, plan and organize nursing care according to established policies and resident needs.

Assists in pre-screening, room assignments and discharge of residents.
3.
Ensures that attending physicians make rounds and that all orders are carried out.

Supervise all nursing activities and promotes improvement in nursing care.
5.
Makes rounds on all residents daily and implements interventions as needed.
6.
Maintains accurate reporting and recording according to policies and procedures, evaluates and makes recommendations for improvements for the welfare of the resident.
7.
Maintains comfortable and pleasant environment and promotes elimination of hazards.
8.
Ensure that supplies are available in proper quantities, that equipment is available in good condition, and that personnel using such supplies and equipment know where such are to be found and know the proper care and use.
9.
Receives thorough reports from Charge Nurses on all shifts and works closely with them to insure maximum total care.
10.
Responsible for assuring accurate recording of medications and narcotics according to procedures.
11.
Participates in nursing care as needed and is responsible for the direct handling of any emergency situation which may arise.
12.
Assists in overseeing the Assessment and Interdisciplinary Care Planning process.
13.
Ensures that all personnel on the shift are oriented to the duties assigned to them.
14.
Gives guidance to personnel as needed, evaluates performance, discusses progress, needs or improvement, prepares evaluation of performance as directed as well as disciplinary action.
15.
Assists with interviewing, evaluating and selecting new personnel for the nursing department in cooperation with the Director of Nursing and Administrator.
16.
Divides nursing duties of the facility to appropriate staff.
17.
Conducts orientation, in-services, and educational programs for nursing personnel.
18.
Ensure documentation of orientation, in-services and educational programs is completed and maintained.
19.
Have the ability to learn computer systems, system applications and related office equipment.
20.
Promotes effective work relationships with the administrator, medical staff, personnel, volunteers, agencies, and management staff affiliated with the facility.
21.
May terminate undesirable personnel according to policy.
22.
Reviews Quality Measures and takes an active role in improving quality.
23.
Assist with investigations and follow up of incidents, accidents and grievances.

Audits documentation 24.
Reports immediately to supervisor, administrator and local law enforcement situations involving abuse, neglect, or suspicion of a crime.
25.
Adheres to the Code of Conduct, Compliance Program, HIPAA Standard, and Computer Usage Agreement.
