We want your knowledge and expertise! Job Summary and Qualifications The technologist produces radiographs of diagnostic quality using the least amount of radiation exposure to the patient, co-workers and him/herself.
Technologists provide quality patient care adhering to the Departmental and Medical Center policies and procedures.
MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients.
Responsible for safe handling of equipment and films.
Assesses patient’s understanding of process and informed consent of invasive procedures.
Assesses, evaluates and informs physician of changes in patient’s condition during exam.
Selects appropriate equipment to use for procedure.
Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly.
Makes special radiographic examinations requiring special equipment and procedures such as: intravenous pyelograms, intravenous cholangiograms, bronchograms, mammograms, hysterosalpingograms, tomograms, cholangiography, arthrograms, myelograms and ho pinnings in surgery.
Programs portable or stationary x-ray machines and makes radiograms for a variety of examinations.
Processes x-ray film, if a darkroom technician is not available.
Practices medical and surgical; aseptic procedures.
Assists in maintaining basic records and reports.
Assists in maintaining files.
Competent in the use of CR and PACS.
Assists in training of students and ancillary personnel.
Takes x-ray, CAT, U/S and Angio calls according to monthly schedule after the closing of the regular department hours.
Interacts professionally with patient/family.
Completes all work before clocking out and leaving.
This includes checking with nurse’s stations.
Is acquainted with local fire and safety regulations.
Has knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of other departments.
Compiles and maintains quality assurance information for mammography, in accordance with ACR, State of Louisiana, Department of Health Standards, the FDA and the DHHS.
Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the following age groups: neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and general population.
Able to modify job duties and communicate with customers in an age appropriate manner.
Appropriately assesses the patient’s pain and involves the patient in effective management of pain using age appropriate interventions.
Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.
Completes annual educational requirements.
Maintains regulatory requirements.
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
Consistently completes and maintains assigned duties; maintains PAR levels.
Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.
Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion.
Attends annual review and departmental in-services, as scheduled.
Attends required staff meetings.
Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department.
Excellent communication skills Knowledge/Competency to complete all standard x-ray procedures/exams.
Good understanding of ALARA principles Ability to work in a fast paced/busy atmosphere Ability to operate all common x-ray equipment including portable x-ray, R&F rooms, C-arms, other.
Ability to offer compassionate care to all age groups Ability to complete specialty exams without assistance Knowledge/proficient in the use of PACS.
Basic computer skills Assist in training of x-ray students and ancillary personnel Ability to communicate with providers in a clear and concise manner Able to flex work schedule as required to meet the need of the department Willingly takes Call as required What qualifications you will need: State Registered Radiologic Technician Registered Radiographer (ARRT) must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date Certificate Basic Cardiac Life Support, or CPR for Healthcare Providers must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date This role requires you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and /or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).
