Addresses the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care related to the surgical and pre-operative environment.
Communicates with the physician continuously and as needed about patient condition.
Assists with the maintenance of equipment and inventory.
Assesses procedure room for equipment functioning and readiness.
Obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures all appropriate needs of the Cardiac Cath Laboratory team are met.
Monitors, positions and assists patient during procedure.
Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
What you will do in this role: Responsible for admitting, recovering and discharging of patients from the Cardiac Cath Laboratory.
Provides follow-up.
Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other health team members as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy.
This includes adult and geriatric patient populations.
This includes post-procedure assessments.
Appropriately assess and reassess the patients’ pain.
Utilizes pain management techniques using age appropriate interventions.
Involves the patient in effective management of the pain.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Approaches patient in a kind, gentle manner.
Demonstrates the ability to handle emergency situations during high risk procedures.
Gives patient explanations and verbal reassurances consistently.
Adapts nursing procedure to meet the needs for treatment of individual adult and geriatric patients.
Identifies the patient verbally and by the patient’s ID armband.
Identifies physical symptoms and changes and takes appropriate action in a timely manner.
Demonstrates the ability to assess cardio-respiratory systems for changes in adult to geriatric patients and is able to treat appropriately.
Able to modify job duties and communicate with customers to provide age appropriate care to the patient populations served.
Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
Appropriately responds to a patient in an emergency or physically distressful situation.
Assessment and reassessment of the patient is clearly and concisely communicated on charting.
Documentation meets current standards, policies and procedures.
Establishes and maintains effective communication and good working relationships with coworkers for the patient’s benefit.
Responsible for daily check of emergency crash cart and defibrillator.
Counts narcotics at beginning and end of each shift with another RN per facility policy and procedure.
Accurately completes procedure counts (instruments, sponges, sharps) with the scrub.
Follows proper procedure in the event of incorrect counts.
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of instrument sterilization and biological monitoring.
Is able to perform all nursing duties as required.
Utilizes initiative, self-motivated; manages time and activity, does not waste time.
Demonstrates the ability to educate patients and their families.
Demonstrates knowledge of radiation safety.
Maintains patients’ images and records.
Responsible for performing clerical duties as assigned.
Meets dress code standards for the department; adheres to policy for “Attire in the Cardiac Cath Laboratory”.
Completes annual educational requirements.
Maintains regulatory requirements.
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
Maintains on-call schedule.
Participates in emergency call coverage.
Participates as scheduled.
The emergency patient procedure is ready to commence within 45 minutes of the initial employee contact.
Accepts responsibility for notifying PBX operator of changes in beeper and/or call status.
Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.
Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion.
Attends annual review and department in-services as scheduled.
Attends at least _9__ staff meetings annually; reads and returns all monthly staff meeting minutes.
Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
